About Our Glass and Artists Here At Kali Designs
Dichroic (Di-kro-ik) Glass is space age cool: originally developed by NASA to be used in astronauts face shields.  Kali Designs uses this glass to create original one of a kind masterpieces.  Each Kali Designs piece is kiln fired numerous times to create a multi-dimensional mystical interplay between color and light.  The kiln, set at a toasty 1500 degrees, causes glass to move through its various stages from room temperature to a molten state and back again.  We have worked with glass for 18 years and are still inspired by the wonders of fire and glass!  Enjoy!

Our Business History
Kali Designs was started in 1989 by San Franciscan glass artist, Lara Michelle.  Lara began experimenting with glass while studying art in college.  Lara has been using glass and metal as her primary mediums ever since.
Coming from an artisic background in sculpture, Lara jokes that she's a jeweler because she's clumbsy.  Years ago Lara dropped a large glass piece and had 50 abstract mini sculptures dazzling up at her from the floor!

What Makes Us Unique
Kali Designs Glass Art Jewelry is located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Art Scene.  Our glass studio is housed in "The Dome," a famous Industrial Artist Loft Building with 18 working studios of glass artists, metal artists, bronze casters, digital neon artists and sculpturers.  San Franciscans love the arts and we are encouraged towards greater creativity surrounded by great museums, symphonies, art galleries and exhibits, and the majestic beauty of the Western Pacific.  Kali Designs is run by artists, art is our passion, it's who we are and what we love.  We hope you enjoy each of our creations as much as we have enjoyed creating them for you.  Thank you for your support of our handcrafted glass work.

Giving Back
The artist/owners of Kali Designs believe strongly in giving back to our community.  Each year we offer our pieces as a reduced rate to individuals and non-profits doing great work in the world.  Use our reduced rate handcrafted pieces for your next fundraiser, silent auction or community event.  Contact us with your needs and we will work with you to make your efforts a greater success.
